Burton not weakest link

A recap of the NBC game show's Star Trek edition

It was almost like putting Star Trek actors on an episode of "Survivor." Instead, eight actors from all the Star Trek series except "Enterprise" had to face Anne Robinson and her game show, "The Weakest Link" Monday night on NBC.

LeVar Burton (Geordi La Forge, "Star Trek: The Next Generation") was the big winner, taking home a show record $167,500 to his favorite charity after facing off with Robert Picardo (The Doctor, "Star Trek: Voyager") in the show's final round. The pair were the only two left of the stars that ranged from William Shatner (Capt. James T. Kirk) of the original series, to Armin Shimerman (Quark) of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

Robinson, the British host known for her ripping of contestants who don't fare well on the show with her trademark line of, "You are the weakest link ... good-bye," had to compete with the laughs generated by the cast members as they battled it out round after round.

Shatner got his jabs in early, especially after the first round when Robinson asked him what his character was best known for on the original "Star Trek." He walked up to Robinson's spot on the stage and mocked making out with the host, asking, "was that good for you?" Seeing her non-reaction, Shatner replied, "Guess not."

Shatner survived the first round when John de Lancie (Q) was voted out first, but ended up being the statistical weakest link in the second round and got the boot.

Shimerman, best known for playing a Ferengi, said that he cast his vote for Shatner because he "always wanted to take out a captain."

The biggest moment of the night came in the already reported story from Entertainment Weekly about Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres, "Voyager") getting upset with Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher, TNG) about his supposed coming on to her.

When Robinson asked why Wheaton had voted for Dawson after the third round, he said that he was a "little in love with Roxann. She's the only person here who's as good looking as I am."

As Dawson left the stage, she blew a kiss toward Wheaton and mouthed the words "I love you," apparently following the humor of the show, but later expressed anger over Wheaton's attitude in her taped testimonial shown immediately following a contestant's ouster. She said that coming on to her when he knows that her husband would be watching the show was "inappropriate." Wheaton, 29, also is married and later said on his Web site that he didn't intend any harm, and would try to apologize personally to her as soon as he was able to reach her.

After Wheaton was booted from the final three, he said in his testimonial that he wanted to play a "parody of a young actor to get a rise out of Ann. Hopefully I won't look too much like a jerk."

The show also featured Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar, TNG).
