Those who have enjoyed their StarTrekMail.com e-mail accounts will have to learn to live their lives without it, at least starting next month.

Mail.com, which handled the free e-mail accounts, sent an e-mail to users Tuesday night letting them know that StarTrekMail.com is going to cease operation after three years of Internet bliss.

"Now, as StarTrek.com focuses on its strength of bringing you the latest, authentic Star Trek universe information, taking you behind-the-scenes of the productions and connecting you with the talent who make it all possible, StarTrek.com can unfortunately no longer support the StarTrekMail.com free e-mail accounts," the company said in an e-mail release to users. "This change will result in the closure of all '@startrekmail.com' e-mail accounts by Dec. 31, approximately 45 days from now.

"StarTrek.com would not exist without its fans' ongoing suport, and we are sorry for the cancellation of the e-mail feature. We hope you will continue to rely on StarTrek.com for all your Star Trek universe needs."

Mail.com apparently will remain in business, and is offering new accounts for those interested in maintaining unique URL addresses on the Web.
