It won't be long before the telemovie for "Babylon 5: Legend of the Rangers" hits the Sci-Fi Channel screen, and series star Dylan Neal as well as producer J. Michael Straczynski recently talked about the production with Dreamwatch magazine.

"When I first signed up to do it, I immediately started looking on the Internet and reading as much as I could about it," said Neal, who will play David Martel. "I had no idea how involved 'Babylon 5' was -- it's such an in-depth universe Joe has created."

Neal describes his character as someone with a "troubled past," but has since become someone who is looking for justice wherever it's not being served.

"The problem that he runs into is that he's a bit of a renegade and that sort of runs in the face of the Rangers, who are these warrior, Zen-like people. He's not a natural fit," Neal said.

"Babylon 5" revolutionized a lot of television's special effects, and Straczynski talked about how Myriam Sirois' character of Sarah Cantrell will interact with the special effects of the latest B5 project.

"We always tried to take things to the next level and do things that haven't been done before," Straczynski said. "One thing that Myriam does, in the character of Sarah, is when the ship is under attack, she drops into a gunnery pod, which is a three-dimensional holographic representation in space. She floats to the center ofit and she is, in that respect, the ship.

"Instead of the usual someone saying, 'There's a ship, fire,' and pushing a button, where she points in the virtual environment, the ship fires -- death follows. It's a whole different look, very different and unusual CGI."
