By MICHAEL HINMANABC has ordered a new adaptation of the lizard-populated show with Scott Peters, a co-creator of USA Network's "The 4400," despite the fact that "V" creator Kenneth Johnson continues to work on a continuation of the 1980s outing.
The new project, which has not been identified as a series or a miniseries, will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, and will have both Peters as well as Jace Hall from HDFilms leading the way. While Peters will concentrate on the television aspect, Hall will be in charge of alternative media, including a gaming platform for the project.
With the new "V" will come a lot of changes, including the removal of the Holocause and Nazi allegories from the original. The current project will focus on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent who has her life turned upside down when the aliens arrive, according to SciFi Wire.
One thing that will remain the same, however, will be the opening shot of spaceships showing up over major cities, a la "Independence Day."
Remakes have been rather hit or miss for networks in recent years. While "Battlestar Galactica" has been a success for SciFi Channel, it seems that few other programs that were reborn from the 1970s and 1980s have not done so well. The most recent example was NBC's attempt to revive "Bionic Woman."
NBC also is trying to gain traction with its "Knight Rider" remake, but audiences are even lower in the Wednesday 8 p.m. ET timeslot than they were for "Bionic Woman.
No other details about the production, or when it might air on ABC, have been released.
