Jones Goes An Unexpected Direction In 'Sarah Connor'

The following contains MODERATE SPOILERS for upcoming episodes of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on Fox. The minds behind Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" are looking to subvert fan expectations this season. Actor Richard T. Jones' character, ex-FBI agent James Ellison, witnessed the rampage of a Terminator first-hand in March's Season 1 finale. After that, some fans might have expected Ellison to join Sarah Connor's team of future fighters. Show runner Josh Friedman had other plans.

"I think everybody sort of assumed now that he knows there are Terminators, he's just going to go team up with the Connors and become more of a student to them, which is why I really didn't want to do that," Friedman told SciFi Wire. "I figured that's what we all expect. There are other ways for him to get through the day and other motivations for him and curiosities."

Jones revealed that the second season will see his character working for Zeira Corp, the tech corporation run by Catherine Weaver (Shirley Manson). It's unclear if he'll be a threat to the Connors this year, but Jones said Ellison's search for answers is far from over.

"I end up working with Shirley Manson, for her character's company, which is a lot better for me because they have money," Jones said. "They pay me with nice stuff. I get nice suits. I sell out for the money. Not really, but I sell out for better resources so I can find out a little bit more about what Terminators are, how they run, and why they're here."

Jones also revealed that Ellison will meet up with the Connors again in Season 2, but it might not be on friendly terms.

"The first meeting is with John (Thomas Dekker), actually, and it's not what you would call a good meeting," Jones said. "He comes with Cameron (the good cyborg played by Summer Glau). Put it this way: He comes with someone. He's not just coming by himself to say hi, so it's an interesting meeting, and I get the worse end of it."

Jones also added that Ellison is unaware that Weaver is a Terminator, but he did say that Ellison will meet a few more Terminators before he's introduced to Cameron.

Friedman also teased upcoming plot lines, specifically episode four, set to air Sept. 29.
