By MARX PYLEMasi Oka (Hiro Nakamura) told SciFi Wire that the third season's subtitle of "Villains" isn't just referring to the bad guys, but also to the little villain inside us all.
"I think that you'll see a dark side of everybody, because being a hero or villain is very subjective," Oka said. "Each human being has the ability to become a hero or a villain. It's the choices that we make every day, and that can be influenced by the things around us. So you'll see the journeys of everybody, you know? ... Will they become heroes? Will they become villains? Even villains can become heroes. It's all relative."
Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli) joined Oka in the dark side talk.
"As good-hearted and well-intentioned as Peter is, exploring that darker side is inevitable," Ventimiglia said. "And, I think, you know, you're going to see some people that have walked a very shadowed past, possibly walking on the good side."
So, are there no real villains, just conflicted heroes this season? Of course not ...
Hiro will get his very own nemesis this year. Her name is Daphne, aka "Speedster," and she is played by Brea Grant, most recently of NBC's "Friday Night Lights."
"Every time Hiro sees her, he calls her his nemesis. And she's great. She's very spunky. She's a speedster. It's kind of like Batman has his Joker; Hiro has his Daphne," Oka said. "Except I consider it more like a Wyle E. Coyote and a Roadrunner relationship, except she says more than meep, meep. And Hiro falls off from cliffs a lot more as well."
But there are even worse threats of villainy than that. Or as Milo tells E! Online, "There's many things much worse than Sylar."
"It's something that is going to strike a chord and be close to Peter, what this big obstacle in the road is ... [because] it's a threat to everybody; it's a threat to everything. I'm not going to say it's four horsemen or one horseman, but there's gonna be a power that comes in that everybody has to kind of band together to make sure it doesn't run wild."
