'Hulk' Sequel Appears Unlikely

It has made $129.9 million so far in domestic box office dollars, but that doesn't seem to be enough for Marvel to revisit the Hulk again in the future outside of an Avengers movie.

Director Louis Leterrier, who was promoting "The Incredible Hulk" in his home country of France over the weekend, told reporters that the poor box office take of "Hulk" made it very unlikely there would be another sequel. So far, the film has not pulled in enough money to break even with its estimated $150 million budget, and there was some question on whether or not Ed Norton would return for a sequel.

At the same time, Leterrier said potential story ideas were scarce because there were only so many times one could dip into the "anger management issues" well. That would make Hulk perfect for an Avengers outing, but not too strong as a standalone film.

It seems that Leterrier may be on the outs with Marvel. He said he was excited about the "Captain America" movie the studio is planning, so much that he offered to direct it. Marvel, however, refused, although Leterrier said it had more to do with the fact that the studio seemed to already have both a lead actor and a director in mind.
