Raimi: Don't Count Anyone Out Of Spidey 4

If three helpings from the superhero franchise was enough for you, then you might not want to read any further. But if you are among the masses that adored the Spider-Man trilogy, news of a fourth film will surely have fans celebrating.

"Right now James Vanderbilt is writing the script and I'm excited to read it," director Sam Raimi told Dark Horizons. "I think it's going to be done in a few months and I'm hoping that it's as great as our discussions were about it. I'm hoping it feels right for me because I love Spider-Man, and I'm hoping I'm well enough rested to really embrace it. ... I'm also hoping that Sony wants me at that time to direct it. So if all those scenes come together, I would love to do it. There's a lot of unknowns about the future."

The bad news? It looks like stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst won't be back for the follow-up. Of course nothing is official yet, and they could still change their minds about returning to the franchise, but both actors were vocal about "Spider-Man 3" being the end of the story as far as they were concerned.

Raimi however still believes that Maguire and Dunst could be tempted to return.

"I'd hate to recast anybody in the picture," he said. "I couldn't imagine that. It's like the new Darrin (Bewitched reference, for those who missed it). I don't know. I can't imagine that."
