Who Was That Cylon In 'Razor' Anyway?

This story contains possible MODERATE SPOILERS for "Battlestar Galactica: Razor" as well as the upcoming telemovie "Caprica."

The words of the Cylon hybrid in last year's "Battlestar Galactica" telemovie "Razor" still echo in the ears of many fans.

"And the fifth, still in the shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them."

Kendra Shaw, played by actress Stephanie Jacobsen, heard that and much more, including the revelation that Katee Sackhoff's Kara Thrace was the "harbinger of death." But who exactly what his hybrid, and what purpose did he serve?

Character actor Cambpell Lane, who has numerous screen credits through a long career, brought the hybrid to life. But why is there such a strong connection between the hybrid and the young William Adama, played by Nico Cortez? And what exactly was his purpose anyway?

Some new source information may shed some light on that. But be warned, not only are there possible spoilers ahead, but none of what you're about to read has been confirmed, so it should be treated as any rumor, especially since storylines can change all the time (or we simply could be being led astray).

The hybrid may be a hybrid only in the technical sense. The old man seems to have certainly been a man at one time, and even had a name: Daniel Graystone.

"What you saw on screen was the father of the Cylons, literally," a source tells SyFy Portal. "No one knew if we were ever going to do ['Battlestar Galactica' spinoff] 'Caprica,' but the backstory was there and established, and that's exactly what the hybrid is supposed to be."

In the upcoming "Caprica" telemovie which SciFi Channel hopes to turn into a series, Graystone is a wealthy inventor who lays the groundwork for what becomes the Cylons. Graystone befriends a young father, Joseph Adama, following a terrorist attack that kills Graystone's daughter as well as Adama's wife and daughter. Adama is left to care for his son, William, as a single father.
