In the same show that welcomed acclaimed "Star Trek" writer David Gerrold, SyFy Radio announced Wednesday night that one of its special on-air guests in July is none other than Mr. Sulu himself, George Takei.

Fresh off his announcement that he was going to marry longtime partner Brad Altman following the California Supreme Court's action of allowing same-sex marriage in the state, Takei will join SyFy Radio and host Michael Hinman at a date yet to be determined in July to talk about "Star Trek," "Heroes" and life as an icon.

SyFy Radio started last March on BlogTalkRadio, and can be found at BlogTalkRadio.com/SyFyRadio. It's hosted by Hinman, who also is the founder and site coordinator of SyFy Portal, and president of its parent Florida corporation, The SyUniverse Group Inc.

"One of the things I made very clear to our staff here at SyFy Portal is that I wouldn't take time to do a weekly radio show like this unless we could bring in guests that would be fascinating and entertaining," Hinman said. "We've been pretty successful so far with people like Eugene Roddenberry, ['Battlestar Galactica' supervising producer] David Weddle, and especially David Gerrold this past week. Welcoming Mr. Takei on the show is icing on the cake, and we hope to continue building it even more from here."

Takei spent time as a child in World War II Japanese internment camps in the United States before growing up to become an actor. Typically relegated to stereotypical Asian roles early in his career, "Star Trek" worked to break that cycle by trying to remove stereotypes from all types of backgrounds.

Takei continues to be a prominent icon in the world of entertainment, appearing in six Star Trek movies, an episode of "Star Trek: Voyager" as captain of the U.S.S. Excelsior, and later playing Kaito Nakamura in seven episodes of the popular NBC series "Heroes."

He also is a regular contributor to the Howard Stern show, which is heard worldwide on Sirius satellite radio.

SyFy Radio airs live every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT online at BlogTalkRadio.com/SyFyRadio. Wednesday's show with David Gerrold, which talks in detail about not only his "Trouble With Tribbles" episode, but life on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" as well as a set visit he made to "Star Trek XI," can be found on the site. It's also available in the iTunes Store as a download by typing "SyFy" in the search engine.
