By MICHAEL HINMANEric Stoltz will play Daniel Graystone, who is said to be the actual creator of the Cylons in the new SciFi Channel backdoor pilot "Caprica." He will be joined by Alessandra Toressani, who has been cast as Zoe Graystone, the onscreen daughter of Stoltz.
Both actors will become part of a "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff that previously cast "Jericho" actor Esai Morales and Joseph Adama (father of Adm. William Adama in BSG) and Paula Malcomson from HBO's "Deadwood" as Amanda Graystone, who will play Stoltz's onscreen wife.
This will be Stoltz's second original appearance on SciFi Channel after playing Howard Thomas in the 2005 miniseries "The Triangle." Outside of that, he has very few genre credits. He guest starred in a 2007 episode of "Medium," and played George Miller in the 2004 film "The Butterfly Effect." He's probably better known as the actor behind the makeup as Rocky Dennis in the 1985 movie "Mask" opposite Cher.
Stoltz also has directed episodes of "Once & Again," "ER" and "Boston Legal."
Toressani, who turns 21 later this month, also is credited under the name Alessandra Toreson. She most recently played Jordan Cowan in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" as the troubled character who later commits suicide.
"Caprica" is getting set for filming this summer, gunning for a winter release on SciFi Channel. If ratings are strong, the network could consider the show for its 2009 schedule.
The movie takes place nearly 50 years before the events of "Battlestar Galactica" centering on two families who somehow develop the foundation of the Cylons.
