By WAYNE HALLThe character was initially intended to be something like Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain. However, the latest word is that Boxleitner's role has been reworked, and he will now spent most of his time interacting with one of the show's leading ladies.
In related news, "Heroes" will add more new characters next season. Not much is known about these new faces, but NBC indicates that the show will continue to primarily follow "the core characters from the pilot."
Boxleitner, who turns 58 on May 12, spent 88 episodes of "Babylon 5" as John Sheridan. He got his start in 1973 as a guest star on "Mary Tyler Moore" but jumped into science-fiction less than a decade later as Alan Bradley in the computer-generated world of "Tron."
He also guest starred in a 2000 episode of "The Outer Limits" as Sen. Wyndom Brody in "Decompression," and has lent his voice to a pair of Tron video games (he also had a Tron cameo in the English version of the video game "Kingdom Hearts II").
"Heroes" will return this fall, airing on Mondays at 9 p.m.
