In the United Kingdom, the availability of programming via online media such as BBC iPlayer and iTunes has proven to be a huge success that now the BBC are planning on extending their online coverage to include the United States ... starting with "Torchwood."

The adult-themed science-fiction series will launch on the iTunes Store in the United States along with other BBC dramas such as "Robin Hood" and "Little Britain."

"BBC is delighted to provide U.S. audiences with the unique ability to purchase and download select award-winning BBC America programming on the iTunes Store," said Beth Clearfield, vice president of digital media and business development for BBC Worldwide America. "As the first U.K. broadcaster available in the U.S., BBC is leveraging its trusted international brand in entertainment to provide our audiences with a first-rate digital experience."

Avid fans of each show can now purchase single episodes and complete seasons of all three shows. At the moment, "Robin Hood" episodes will be made available for download 24 hours after their original broadcast and a similar approach will likely extend into other shows including "Torchwood" when it returns for its third season.

Episodes will be priced at $1.99.
