Can Sackhoff Find A Role Like Starbuck Again?

Very often, when an actor plays a role in a television series as critically acclaimed as "Battlestar Galactica," they find it difficult to find equally great or better roles once the series ends. Katee Sackhoff, who plays the pivotal role of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the series, is facing such a dilemma. She is concerned about finding parts as challenging and powerful once “Galactica's” fourth and final season ends.

"It's extremely difficult," Sackhoff said in an interview with SciFi Wire. "It's a definite worry. People ask me if I'm worried about being pigeonholed in science-fiction, and definitely not. That's not a fear of mine at all."

Sackhoff, who has most recently been seen as Sarah Corvus on "Bionic Woman" and as a doomed woman in the recent straight-to-DVD "White Noise 2: The Light," said that what she's "worried about is finding strong, fun, exciting, inspirational characters, because Kara is, with all of her flaws and drama, still an extremely strong woman first and foremost. And I think that's what I'm most worried about is if I'm ever going to find that again."

Her concerns are not unfounded. Other actors who have not fared as well as hoped after their critically acclaimed series ended include most of the actors from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," including Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Gellar has found steady work, but in a string of easily-forgettable horror movies to downright embarrassing films ("Scooby Doo 2"), none of which have shown her range and mastery as an actor.

Other actors who not yet or never found roles to match their talent after their groundbreaking roles include Leonard Nimoy after "Star Trek," Brent Spiner from "Star Trek: the Next Generation," and more recently Alexis Denisof from “Angel” (though the latter still have a number of years to find themselves in good roles again).

Sackhoff doubts that she'll play Starbuck again. "I do not think that we'll be back" in a film or subsequent series, she said. "I think there's something to be said for just ending."

"Battlestar Galactica" begins its fourth and final season on April 4, at 10 p.m. ET on the SciFi Channel.
