Eick Writes 'Children Of Men' TV Pilot

"It's really taking root more in the origins of the novels in that it will focus on the cultural movement in which young people become the society's utter focus," Eick told SciFi Wire. "Much like our culture, whenever Lindsay Lohan does something [and] it becomes the headline of every news show, it's about how, when you don't have a responsibility to the next generation and you're free to do whatever you want, where do you draw the line?"

According to Eick, "Children of Men" will question how society defines responsibility, freedom and a sense of values when it doesn't necessarily believe humans will survive as a species. "It's not really a war show like the movie was," he explained, "It's more an exploration of that issue."

"Children of Men" is about a dystopian society where global infertility has doomed the human population to extinction in less than a century. Both the book and the movie deal with societal collapse, terrorism, and environmental destruction, as the last functioning government persecutes an endless wave of illegal immigrant refugees seeking sanctuary.

Even as he is writing "Children of Men," Eick is finishing work the final season of "Battlestar Galactica" and preparing for production on the pilot for its prequel, "Caprica."
