By MICHAEL HINMANA message board post on "The 4400's" official boards presumably from show creator Scott Peters says that while he's sad about the cancellation, at least the show was able to go out with "a bang."
"We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters," Peters said in the post. "Let me raise my metaphorical glass to you all and thank you for being so loyal and so dedicated. I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end."
There had been tremendous amount of speculation that USA would not renew the show as ratings have been eroding over the last few seasons. The most recent season ended last September with The 4400 taking over Seattle and a cliffhanger that fans surely would've wanted to see more.
"The 4400" was set in Seattle, but actually shot a couple hours north in Vancouver, B.C. It starred Joel Gretsch -- the son-in-law of William Shatner -- and Jacqueline McKenzie.
This news has yet to be confirmed by USA Networks or NBC Universal, so until Peters' post has been corroborated, this should be treated as any rumor would.
UPDATE: TV Guide's Michael Ausiello has reported that not only is USA Network cancelling "The 4400," but that it is saying good-bye to its companion show, "The Dead Zone."
