Love lost on 'Andromeda'

Kevin Sorbo says not to expect a Dylan/Beka romance

There will be no romance on the Andromeda Ascendant, well, at least not among the crewmembers.

Kevin Sorbo, who stars as Capt. Dylan Hunt on "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda," said that there definitely will be a love interest for his character this coming season, but it won't be Lisa Ryder's character of Capt. Beka Valentine.

"They (the producers) wanted to go that way initially, but I fought them on that," Sorbo recently told SFX Magazine. "I think that's not a good thing to do. It's like Sam (Malone, from "Cheers") getting it on with Rebecca (Howe). It kills it! It's like that 'I Dream of Jeannie' thing when they get together. I think it's bad. I think we'll keep that relationship antagonistic."

Dylan Hunt won't be the only one looking for love this season as well. It seems that the ship's avatar, Rommie (Lexa Doig), will be a hot item by more people than just Seamus Harper (Gordon Michael Woolvett). Even if those people are just off-camera friends of Sorbo.

"Andromeda's got a crush on her captain. All my friends wanna screw her. I'm telling you right now! They all wanna sleep with my ship," Sorbo said. "They all tell me that. Of all the girls, they wanna screw my ship.

"(Doig) is very nice. She is fun to work with. I think they stick her with god-awful dialogue, but she's able to spit it out. Lexa's a lot of fun."

Sorbo said the second season will see a major departure from campiness, and the stories will be "more adult."

"Some of the shows did get a little cornbally, but I wanna get away from that. I wanted to keep this show along the lines of what was the magic of the original series ("Star Trek"); the relationship with the characters."
