By MICHAEL HINMAN"Torchwood" pulled in more than 700,000 viewers in two airings at 9 p.m. and midnight ET, according to Nielsen Media Research, including just under 500,000 for the initial airing. That was enough to beat the premiere of "Robin Hood" on the network, which had a 0.42 household rating as well when BBCA was available in less markets, according to Multichannel News.
Nearly 300,000 viewers were from the key audience demographic of adults 25 to 54, which is considered a desired audience for many advertisers.
When the show premiered on BBC Three in the United Kingdom earlier this year, it pulled in audiences of millions. However, cable channels are different, especially in the United States, where reaching a million viewers is considered a titanic event.
"Torchwood" airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America. You can see a Vlog recap of each episode exclusive on AfterElton.com.
Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
