By MARX PYLEThe biggest news has been the appearance of Superman’s cousin Kara – Supergirl (and no, this one is for real and not a deception by Jor-El). But now, continuing the Supergirl theme, Helen Slater (who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie by the same name) will guest star as Kara’s aunt.
This joins previously reported stories of "Lois and Clark's" Dean Cain making a guest appearance as Dr. Knox, as well as the return of the Martian Manhunter.
But these answers only spawn more questions. To reveal more details, iF Magazine recently interviewed The CW show's executive producer Al Gough.
So, if Slater is playing Kara’s Aunt, isn’t that just a cryptic way of saying she will be playing Clark’s mother?
"Helen Slater will indeed be playing Lara in a series of flashbacks in Episode 6, and that may not be her only appearance this season," Gough said.
Little has been revealed about Cain’s mysterious Dr. Knox character. Up to this point it wasn’t clear if Knox is an ally or enemy. But Gough clarifies, "Dean is definitely playing a foe."
The first appearance of the "junior" Justice League in the episode "Justice" was immensely popular. Fans have been clamoring for a return of this superhero team. Unfortunately we won’t see them all return, but some will, plus a new face.
"We will see Oliver Queen/GA sometime in the middle of the season with --
hopefully -- a new JLAer we haven't met yet on the show," Gough revealed.
To many fans dismay, Annette O'Toole is no longer a regular cast member. Meanwhile Michael Rosenbaum has been noncommittal on returning for an eighth season, if "Smallville" is renewed. Gough could only say that "we hope to bring Michael back for one more season after this one in some capacity."
