Scenes From 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles' Terminated

Story revamped after Virginia Tech shootings

"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" will revamp scenes of a school shooting out of sensitivity to the victims, witnesses and families affected by the recent Virginia Tech tragedy.

The Terminator spinoff featured scenes in its pilot of a robot from the future shooting up a classroom in an assassination attempt against 15-year-old student John Connor played by "Heroes" and SyFy Genre Awards nominee Thomas Dekker.

"The Sarah Connors Chronicles," scheduled to begin next year, follows a mother (fellow Genre Awards nominee Lena Heady) trying to protect her son -- who is destined to save mankind from tyrannical machines that rule the world in the future.

The scene in the pilot for the upcoming series was filmed before student Cho Seung-hui killed 33 people and wounded 25 others before turning his gun on himself at Virginia Tech University in April.

After the Virginia Tech shootings, writer/executive producer Josh Friedman met with Fox officials to rework the scenes. He contended that the incident was central to the show's theme, according to Fox Entertainment chairman Peter Liguori.

Friedman was the first to acknowledge the scenes should be changed in the wake of the deaths in Virginia, Liguori added, though he did not elaborate on how the story would be changed.

"Josh wrote (the original shooting) scene with a very thoughtful explanation," Liguori told reporters.

"This woman is charged with protecting and preparing her son to be the future leader of the resistance," Liguori said. "The one single place a parent has to give up control of their child is school."

The reshots, according to Liquori, will not compromise the show's tone or style. Intended to be an action-adventure family show, "The Sarah Connors Chronicles" has a comic book feel to it, despite its mirroring real-life events.

"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is scheduled to air on Fox in early 2008.
