'SG-1' Series Finale Draws An Audience

PLUS: 'Atlantis' also delivers viewers

Those who believe that after 10 years on the air “Stargate SG-1” is nothing but a dying animal are sadly mistaken. Not only is the series moving into the land of television movies, but the series finale made an impact by bringing in more viewers from key demographics than any other competing show.

In a press release from the SciFi Channel, “Unending” delivered a 1.7 household rating, translating to approximately 1.2 million viewers from 25-54 years of age and 1.1 million from 18-49. The episode achieved a total of 2.2 million viewers making it the highest rated episode since part one of "The Quest" last year.

The spin-off series "Stargate: Atlantis" also proved successful in its timeslot, bringing in a total of 2 million viewers. Like "SG-1," this marks the largest turnout for the series since it’s mid-season finale before Christmas in 2006. "First Strike" performed particularly well with the 25-54 age demographic, receiving the highest rating since the third season launched.

In the finale for "Atlantis," the lost city faced an onslaught by the Asuran Replicators, forcing the expedition to activate the cities engines and move the entire facility off world. Season four is currently in production with an expected air date for the fall and will launch with a two-part adventure that will introduce Col. Carter (Amanda Tapping) into the series as the new leader of the Atlantis team, simultaneously dealing with the departure of Dr. Weir (Torri Higginson).
