By MICHAEL HINMANNew Jersey nut retailer Nuts Online shipped out another two tons of nuts to CBS Tuesday, adding to the 1,000 pounds already sent Monday as part of the fan campaign to force CBS to reverse its decision to cancel the nuclear bomb-laden "Jericho."
"From a few orders, to a few more orders, to a few e-mails, to a lot more e-mails, we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of a campaign to support a showe we had never even watched before," Jeffrey Braverman, president of Nuts Online, said in a letter to "Jericho" fans posted on the site. "At first I thought you were nuts, but after interacting with a bunch of you, I realized how real you were and how I could easily see myself in your place. Maybe I get excited too easily, but I was impressed with your devotion and passion and decided to fully embrace your campaign."
For whatever reason, early campaign organizers chose Nuts Online as a quick and easy way to order and send nuts to CBS officials, a play on some dialogue in the series finale of "Jericho" where Skeet Ulrich's character of Jake Green answers a call of surrender with a single word: "Nuts."
Originally, fans had to make somewhat expensive orders online to get nuts delivered, but soon after Braverman and other Nuts Online officials realized what was happening, they created a pool of wholesale nuts that fans could buy into for as little as $5. Since that pool was created, more than 830 orders have been placed for 6,605 pounds of nuts costing about $8,950, as of 1:20 a.m. ET on Wednesday. On top of that, fans have made individual orders totaling 555 pounds.
More than 4,000 pounds of nuts were shipped out Tuesday with at least 1,600 at last count ready to move out on Wednesday, company officials said.
