'Battlestar Galactica' Movie Not Forgotten

There's been plenty of talk about the fourth season of "Battlestar Galactica" getting the greenlight for a fourth season, but one project that apparently has been lost in the shuffle was the proposed telemovie that NBC Universal has commissioned, when and if a fourth season was announced.

Apparently, such a project is still under way despite it not being mentioned in SciFi Channel's news release Tuesday, and the people at GeekMonthly.com say it might be a little prequel-like.

According to reports, the story will focus on the original Cylon sneak attack of the Twelve Colonies that received bits and pieces of coverage in the 2003 miniseries. It also could feature how the Battlestar Pegasus escaped, creating an opportunity for the return of Michelle Forbes -- who played Adm. Cain in the second season -- to the franchise in the one-time event.

Such a infill-type story could create the return of many characters that have since parted ways from the show, and would fit original reports that such a movie would not interfere in the current timeline being established by the show as it moves through its current third season.

If anyone is expecting it to have some sort of connection to the proposed SciFi Channel spinoff series "Caprica," don't hold your breath. GeekMonthly says the telemovie will have absolutely nothing to do with that prequel series.

Responding to news of "Battlestar Galactica's" renewal, GeekMonthly also pointed out that there's word that it's already been decided this will be the show's final season. However, the 13-episode truncated order for Season 4 is nothing more than a partial season order, something that is common with standard broadcast network series (even "Heroes" had an original 13-episode order, before NBC picked up the option for a full season, and later a second season). There is nothing yet to indicate that SciFi Channel is looking for an endpoint in the near future as ratings continue to meet expectations and the show provides the channel with much-needed publicity.
